AWIS project

Which information ?

What information is valued by AWIS?

Valuing existing information within the AWIS’network:

The AWIS system’s first concern is to ensure that information that already exists within its network is known. For its members who have not yet developed information dissemination strategy, AWIS provides capacity building for the development of skills in information management and make this information accessible on their websites or AWIS’ portal.

Valuing information produced by the AWIS’network:

The African water information system has also the ambition to produce specific information mobilizing knowledge and experience of its network members. Because the production of this information involves actors in the field, it is intended to be pragmatic and operational for other stakeholders.

What are the communication supports or aids used by AWIS for disseminating information?

The Information supports used by AWIS are all electronic, but may have various forms.
The AWIS core strategy of disseminating information is its Internet portal: www.african-wis.org .

This portal offers:
- A search engine that identifies and lists the information available from different partners of AWIS network.
- Open Electronic conferences on a timely basis, to discuss topical issues and concerns of members.
- Discussion forums open continuously, allowing interested parties to submit questions or their specific needs.
- News of the sector, with reference to various sector events (meetings, training, calls, etc.).
- A directory of African stakeholders in the water sector, whose ambition is to reference or disseminate sector – related information across the continent.

AWIS also proposes, in its own information production:
- A newsletter, quarterly published,
- Bibliographic summaries of topics for which the AWIS network wish to enrich/enhance their knowledge,
- Thematic papers/bulletins and technical fact sheets whose objective is to present thoroughly specific issues of the water sector.
